Certificates in English

The Department of English offers two certificate programs for certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). Certificate programs are completed by students in another degree program (a B.A. in English or a B.A. in Integrated Language Arts, for example) who wish to develop additional expertise (and demonstrate that expertise to a prospective employer). Our programs are useful to those who want to teach English abroad (TEFL) and to those who want to teach non-native speakers of English in the U.S. (TESL)

Teaching English as a Foreign Language

The TEFL Certificate program is an 18 credit hour program that prepares students for teaching abroad. Masters and doctoral certification programs are also offered. The program also includes an international Practicum experience in Dresden Germany. For more detailed information on the requirements and program costs, go to the TEFL Certificate site.
