Kent Fashion School Professor Awarded 2018 ITAA Mid-Career Excellence Award

Jihyun Kim, Ph.D., Kent State University Fashion School associate professor, Jihyun Kim, Ph.D., was recently awarded the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) 2018 Mid-Career Excellence Award. As a recipient of the award, Dr. Kim received a waiver for the conference registration fee and was recognized during the annual conference, held Nov.  6 - 9 in Cleveland, OH, where she made six research presentations via oral and/or poster documenting her work in the field. 

Dr. Kim serves an appointment in fashion merchandising and as the faculty director of the Fashion School STORE at Kent State University. Prior to her appointment at Kent State, she served nine years at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in the Department of Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management, where she was area lead of the apparel product development and merchandising management program as well as coordinator of the Oris Glisson Historic Costume and Textile Collection. 

Throughout her 14-year academic career in the disciplines of fashion/clothing and textiles, Dr. Kim established a global reputation as a prolific researcher and scholar by providing unique expertise in two distinctive areas—fashion merchandising and creative design. She has purposefully interwoven two areas into a unifying theme: Advancing fashion industry practices, from fashion concept creation to merchandising management at the retail level, through understanding consumer behavior toward strategic applications of emerging technologies.

 

In 2016, in the refereed journal publication, she was identified as a top contributor to fashion marketing research. Dr. Kim has received multiple research awards and recognition in retail and merchandising disciplines. 

 

ITAA is a professional, educational association composed of scholars, educators, and students in the textile, apparel, and merchandising disciplines in higher education. ITAA welcomes professionals employed in those fields who wish to join with members of the Association in the pursuit of knowledge, interchange of ideas, and dissemination of knowledge through meetings, special events, and publications. ITAA promotes the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge and is a primary resource for its members in strengthening leadership and service to society.
