Peg’s Foundation and the School of Fashion team up for “100 Students in 100 Days” Initiative
Peg’s Foundation has challenged the School of Fashion at Kent State University to help support 100 students in 100 days. A $1 million challenge grant provides a dollar-for-dollar match for all donations made toward this initiative. Your support will help equip fashion students with a definitively unique education through the study away program
The future of the fashion industry depends on those who have a significant understanding of global markets, trends and cultural insights. For this reason, all students who major in fashion must complete a study away trip in order to meet their graduation requirements. The school is the first fashion institution in the country to include a required study-away experience as part of their curriculum.
The school offers an array of different locations for students to travel to, acknowledging the benefits of studying out of state and abroad. Through the program, students have the opportunity to study in New York City, Los Angeles, Florence, Paris, Hong Kong, South Korea, London and Germany. Students that participate in the Study Away program have spoken highly of the life-changing experience; the program offers new opportunities that would not be otherwise accessible at the Kent State campus.
"My time abroad changed my life. I came away from the experience with a reignited passion, not only for the fashion industry, but my personal life," said senior Dani Ritter. "When applying for college, I knew that I wanted to study away. Kent's Fashion School simplified the process and made me feel confident, comfortable, safe, and cared for at all times. Traveling is my greatest passion in life, and Kent allowed me to explore that. In the Summer of 2019, I completed my internship with American Eagle Outfitters Inc. at their corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am happy to say that I will be returning to them as an Assistant Merchant upon graduation. My time away gave me the confidence and refreshed passion required to succeed in the fashion industry. My study away experience will stick with me for the rest of my life and continue to aid me as I travel for both my career and my personal pleasure."
The average cost of a study away experience is $3,000. With the help of alumni and donors, the School of Fashion hopes to raise funds to support 100 students by the annual fashion show on April 25, 2020.
