EXPLORE THE PARIS AMERICAN ACADEMY

Experience one of the world's fashion capitals, appreciate where fashion came from and see where fashion is going when you participate in the Paris American Academy Program!

You can earn Kent State credits while taking courses at the Paris American Academy (PAA), located in the city's historic Latin Quarter. Field trips, workshops, lectures and activities at the PAA are designed to expand your understanding of fashion while studying with masters of couture fashion techniques and European luxury business. You will also have the opportunity to attend and assist backstage at fashion week shows.

PROGRAM DATES

Summer 2021: July 1 - July 29

Fall 2021 (FD majors only): Aug. 26 - Dec. 17*

Spring 2022 (FD majors only): Jan. 17 - May 10*

ELIGIBILITY

  • A minimum 2.500 overall GPA.
  • Successfully complete all sophomore (20000-level) fashion design or fashion merchandising courses prior to participating.
  • Consult with your academic advisor to plan for your study away experience and ensure it corresponds with your academic goals and graduation plan.

 

COURSES

During the summer, the Paris American Academy Program allows you to complete 6 credit hours of FDM elective courses:

Fashion Merchandising & Communications Specialization:

  • FDM 35902 European Fashion Marketing (3 credits)
  • FDM 35903 European Fashion Marketing Seminar (3 credits)

Fashion Design Specialization:

  • FDM 35904 European Fashion Design (3 credits)
  • FDM 35905 European Fashion Design Seminar (3 credits)

For Fashion Design majors only: During the fall and spring semester, students are required to enroll in at least 12 credit hours. 

For Fashion Design majors only: During the fall and spring semester, Junior-level design courses and FDM elective courses are available, however, course offerings may vary by semester. 

 

HOUSING

The PAA will arrange your housing at it will be located within one mile of the school in the Latin Quarter. You can choose between a shared, private, furnished apartment, a shared three-star hotel twin room, or a private three-star hotel single room.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Through the generous support of the Robert Broadbent Endowed Scholarship, the School of Fashion is pleased to offer one $3,000 merit-based scholarship to apply toward the Kent State School of Fashion PAA Program. Majors Eligible: Design and Merchandising

Class Standing Eligible: Junior and Senior who has at least one remaining semester to return to KSU after the PAA program is completed.

 

IMPORTANT DATES

Study Away Pre-Approval Application: The online application is available September 15 - December 15, 2020.

Commitment Contract: Eligible students will receive access to the online Commitment Contract in early January. Submit your contract as soon as possible. Students are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
