Develop global competencies and gain insight into Korean culture when you participate in the School of Fashion's Dankook University Program!

During the summer, fashion design and merchandising students can earn up to six Kent State University credits while taking approved School of Fashion courses at Dankook University in Seoul, South Korea. Select, eligible students may earn an additional three credits through a unique month-long internship opportunity at a local Korean fashion industry leader. In addition to the academic and professional industry experience, students will gain valuable cultural immersion through a range of activities, including calligraphy, Korean traditional music and dance lessons, and visits to Korean temples, businesses, and folk villages.

Internship Program: June 8 - July 10

Academic Program: July 13 - August 7

  • Exact program dates vary, dependent upon Dankook University's academic calendar. 
  • There will be a required orientation on July 13, hosted by Dankook University.



  • A minimum 2.500 overall GPA.
  • Successful completion of all sophomore (20000-level) fashion design or fashion merchandising courses prior to participating.
  • Consult with your academic advisor to plan for your study away experience and ensure it corresponds with your academic goals and graduation plan.



Students enroll in Dankook University courses.

Students will need to complete a Transfer Course Plan Form with their academic advisor to have Dankook courses applied to their fashion degree at Kent State.

Students are required to enroll in six credits of FDM elective courses. 

If selected to participate in the Internship Program, students will enroll in the following Kent State course:

  • FDM 45192 Internship in Fashion Merchandising


  • FDM 45292 Internship in Fashion Design



Students may apply to participate in a month-long internship experience with a local Korean fashion industry leader. To be considered for the Internship Program, students must be eligible to complete 45192 Internship in Fashion Merchandising and FDM 45292 Internship in Fashion Design through Kent State. Participants will be chosen through an interview process.



Students live in double-occupancy rooms in an on-campus residence hall through Dankook University. All rooms are furnished with single beds, pillows, desks, chairs, wardrobes, a telephone, internet, and a private bathroom. Laundry facilities, a cafeteria, fitness center, convenience store, and reading rooms are also available in the residence hall.

  • Students participating in the Internship Program are required to secure their own housing.

Study Away Pre-Approval Application: The online application is available September 15 - December 15, 2019.

Program Application: Eligible students will receive access to the online program application in January. The application deadline is February 1, 2020.

Interviews for the Internship Program: Interviews will be held February 2 - February 14, 2020. Students will be contacted directly to set up an interview. All accepted applicants will be notified on February 15, 2020.
