Mark Guizlo

I am a part time PhD student at Kent State, and I work full time as a geography professor at Lakeland Community College, which is roughly a 45 minute drive north of Kent.  I am also enrolled in Kent State's Community College Leadership program.  

My interests in geography create a useful bridge between my community college career and the PhD program at Kent.  I serve as the Lead Faculty on the Ohio Board of Regents Geography Transfer Assurance Guides panel, and I am developing a degree and certificate program in geospatial technology at Lakeland Community College.

My research interests include geospatial sciences, geographic education, and rural and agricultural land use.    I am at the proposal stage in the PhD program, and recently completed the draft of my dissertation proposal on land suitability modeling for wine grape production Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties, Ohio - these counties contain the Grand River Valley American Viticultural Area, which is a located in an upland, gently sloping region that roughly parallels the south shore of Lake Erie.
