Ms. Xin Hong is currently a doctoral candidate in the Department of Geography at Kent State University, OH. Her education and research have been in the applications of geospatial methodologies for studying human well-being and environmental health. Her current research includes developing a deep learning (Artificial Intelligence) method for classifying sidewalks from high volume drone images in a community health study as her dissertation research project and profiling the environment of cancer villages in China using geospatial technology. Her publications include the applications of geospatial technologies for addressing the issues in community health, weight loss awareness, and environmental pollution.
Ms. Hong worked as the consultant in the NASA DEVELOP National Program for two summer terms (2016 and 2017). As a contracted consultant for NASA DEVELOP, Ms. Hong participated in geospatial projects related to coastal Alabama oceans and Northern Great Plains water resources, respectively. In Summer 2017, Ms. Hong’s work with NASA DEVELOP was rewarded with the Science Systems and Applications Inc. Annual Award.
