2015 International CookOff
Team Sri Lanka Takes First Place in the Sixth Annual International Cook-Off Competition
Congratulations to Team Sri Lanka, winners of the Sixth Annual International Cook-Off Competition with their fried rice with fish balls and fruit punch. The Cook-Off was held Thursday night, November 19 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. Nearly 500 attendees enjoyed the delicious, palate-pleasing food and beverages prepared by the six competing teams from China, India, Brazil, Vietnam, Oman and Sri Lanka. Team Oman and Team Vietnam also placed second and third respectively, while Team Oman also received the People's Choice Award.
Hosted by the Office of Global Education, the Cook-Off event annually punctuates International Education Week. Selection of the winners fell on the shoulders – and taste buds – of the Cook-Off judges: Douglas Steidl, dean of the College of Architecture; Dr. Jeffrey Judge, ESL Director, English as a Second Language Center; and Stephen Thomas, head of the doctoral program in the Higher Education Administration. Christopher Owens, Residence Hall Director, was the Master of Ceremonies throughout the evening and announced the winners. In support of the teams' culinary endeavors, KSU Dining Services provided the food and all of the ingredients, while the teams prepared and presentated all of the food. The six teams included students from Vietnam, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Oman, China and India. All proceeds from the event's $2.00 admission were donated to The Freedom House, a shelter for homeless veterans located in Kent, OH.
