This summer, 21 Kent State faculty and staff members and 144 students embarked on journeys abroad. On these impactful faculty-led education abroad programs, students were able to deeply explore their course content in context with their faculty experts.
Archaeology of Ireland
Dr. Michelle Bebber and Dr. Metin Eren led the Archaeology of Ireland program to Ireland and the United Kingdom. Students explored field sites and museums while learning about the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Celtic, Viking, and later historic periods.
Business Consulting in Ireland and EMBA International Business Experience in Ireland
Dr. Luda Leontieva led the Business Consulting in Ireland and EMBA International Business Experience in Ireland programs for graduate business students. Students on these programs were able to put classroom learning to practice by investigating challenges faced by local businesses and providing recommendations.
Advanced and Elementary/Intermediate Spanish Language and Culture Immersion in Salamanca
Dr. Patrick Gallagher and Professor Kimberly Talentino led the Advanced and Elementary/Intermediate Spanish Language and Culture Immersion in Salamanca program in Spain. Students on the program participated in Spanish language courses and cultural activities such as museum visits and classes on Spanish cooking, dance, and guitar making.
CCI Intersession Course in Florence – From Ideas to Stories: Storytelling in Tuscany
Kent State alumnus Tom Jennings and Dr. Fabio Corsini of the Kent State Florence Center led the From Ideas to Stories: Storytelling in Tuscany program in Florence, Italy. Students on the program used the inspirational backdrop of Florence and Tuscany to explore how to generate ideas for content creation and turn those ideas into effective stories to tell in words, video and still images.
Exploring Sustainability Programs in Greece
Professor Ellen Daniels, accompanied by Professor Donald Thacker, led students to Greece on the Exploring Sustainability Programs in Greece program. Students examined sustainability programs employed by U.S. companies and compared them to similar programs in Greece.
Human Development and Family Studies, Ireland
Dr. Maureen Blankemeyer, accompanied by Rose Onders, led students to Ireland and the United Kingdom for the Human Development and Family Studies, Ireland program. Students explored societal influences on interpersonal relationships and families, such as education, religion, traditions, and immigration.
London and Beyond: Medieval and Early Modern Literature in England
Dr. Ann Martinez, Dr. Lindsay Starkey, and Dr. Shawn Selby led students to the United Kingdom on the London and Beyond: Medieval and Early Modern Literature in England program to explore English literature. Students visited Shakespeare’s birthplace, saw a performance of King Lear at the Globe Theatre, and explored museums and medieval sites in and beyond London.
Rwanda after Genocide
Sarah Schmidt and Pacifique Niyonzima led the Rwanda after Genocide program, in which students were prepared for field research in Rwanda. Students experienced multiple sectors and delved into disciplinary subgroups to explore post-genocide policy and peacebuilding.
School of Music Paris
Dr. Donna Lee, Dr. H. Gerrey Noh, and Samuel Robert led students on the School of Music Paris program. Students engaged in activities such as performance, presentations of historical and analytical research, composition, and a multimedia documentary production of the experience.
Planning and Implementing Study Abroad While Studying Abroad
Dr. Mark Kretovics led graduate students to Italy on the Planning and Implementing Study Abroad While Studying Abroad program. Students learned about the design and delivery of education abroad while exploring Kent State University's center in Florence and meeting with university program officials, faculty, facility support staff, as well as private third-party providers of study abroad, community and onsite support services.
Relational Learning in Italy
With the Relational Learning in Italy program led by Dr. Anne Morrison, students visited schools in Rome, Florence, and Reggio Emilia. Students collaborated with teachers and students at an international, public elementary, and high school.
