Program Extension for J Scholars

Eligibility

J-1 Scholars at Kent State are eligible for a program extension if they meet the following requirements:

1. You have not reached the maximum length of participation:

• Short Term Scholars: Maximum of 6 months
• Research Scholars and Professors: Maximum of 5 years
• Specialists: Maximum of 1 year
   

2. Proof of finances:

• At least $1400 per month, and
• $450 per month for the first dependent, $250 per month for each additional dependent
   

3. Approval from hosting faculty member

If you meet the above requirements, your hosting faculty member must log into the ISSS portal, navigate to your profile, and select Extend Program to submit the request. The ISSS team will then contact you or your hosting faculty member for any needed next steps.
