How to update your OPT Employer Information

All future OPT Reporting should be done through the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) Portal. The portal is a tool that F-1 students on post-completion optional practical training (OPT) or STEM OPT will use to report changes to home address, telephone number, and employer information. Please read all of the information below as well as the linked resources from SEVP regarding the launch of the SEVP Portal.
Creating Your Account
You should have received an email with instructions on creating your portal account. This email came from do-not-reply.sevp@ice.dhs.gov. If you did not see the email, check your spam or junk mail folder. If you still do not see it by April, 6 2018, email isss@kent.edu with subject line: 'SEVP Portal'. You must create your account within fourteen (14) days of receiving this email or the link will expire.
The SEVP Portal will allow you to:
  • View details about your post-completion OPT or STEM OPT
  • Report changes to your address and telephone (OPT and STEM OPT)
  • Report changes to your employer information (OPT only)
  • View updated data on all your employers in one place (OPT and STEM OPT
  • ALL changes should be reported within 10 days of the change
Any data updates you make in the portal will be sent directly to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). SEVP has created an SEVP Portal Help section on Study in the States with information about the portal.

Accessing the Portal for Employer Updates

After you have created your account use the following link to access the SEVP portal login page in order to make any edits or changes to your employer information, address, email, or phone number. https://sevp.ice.gov/opt/#/login


How to request A printed copy of your I-20

Once you have successfully updated the information in your SEVP student portal, you may email ISSS@kent.edu with the subject line "SEVP Portal Employer Update-- Request I-20" in order to request a printed copy of your updated I-20. An advisor will then be able to process your request. A travel signature will automatically be provided for you and any dependents. Once your I-20 is ready, you will be notified via email. 
To collect your I-20, you will have 3 options outlined below. Please indicate in your email one of the following options:
  • Collect I-20 from OGE -- you will need to bring your photo ID to show to the OGE reception desk

  • Authorize a friend to collect from OGE -- You will need to indicate in the email the name of your friend. Once you receive the email indicating that your I-20 is ready for pick up, please forward the email to your friend. They will need to show the email and photo ID to the OGE reception desk. 

  • Have your I-20 shipped at your own cost -- Once you receive the email indicating your I-20 is ready for shipment, you will need to complete the instructions to create your shipping label. These instructions will be emailed to you; do not make a shipping label before your I-20 is ready.
