Overview

This co-ed private university in the northern region of Bogota sits just beyond the touristy center of the city. For those seeking an authentic, immersive Colombian experience, Universidad El Bosque may be the perfect fit. Situated in an urban, residential landscape, it is a glimpse into authentic Colombian life. This exchange experience requires a documented B2 level of Spanish as courses will be taught nearly exclusively in Spanish.

Location

Northern Bogota, Colombia, is situated among the rolling mountains of the Andes. El Bosque University is considered an urban campus, but boasts incredible views of the foothills that surround it. Known for its unique focus on student life, an open-air rooftop student lounge is one of the many features of El Bosque that aims to nourish a student-centered approach to learning. Located near a major highway system, the university is surrounded by cafes, restaurants and parks that students can enjoy. Because of its accessible locale, students can walk to class from the apartments located nearby.

Academics

Universidad El Bosque is a private university founded in 1977 and offers 20 undergraduate programs in arts and design, social sciences, natural and health sciences, engineering, and business administration. Language classes are offered to international students seeking to improve their Spanish and French. Students must have a B2 level of Spanish proficiency to attend El Bosque, as courses are typically only taught in Spanish.

Living in Bogotá

With El Bosque located in the north of Bogota, this area is a great place to live because of the quiet residential feel. For around $150 USD per month, students can rent a shared apartment that houses up to eight students. Otherwise, renting nearby apartments is an option, too. Because it is located a bit further from big city life, there are far more locals with whom to interact, making the experience a true Colombian one. In addition, it is considered one of the safest places to live in Bogota. The northern part of the city has an abundance of supermarkets, small stores, bakeries and pharmacies. Close in proximity to Portal del Norte (a bus station that transports people to many day and weekend trips), it is a convenient place to live. Public transportation in northern Bogota is plentiful and includes Uber, taxis and buses.
