The Graduate College's Graduate Professional and Academic Development (GPAD) workshop series provides a diverse array of workshops in the areas of career development, research, college teaching, and professional/personal development. A schedule of workshops for Fall 2022 will be available in late August.

September 6: Teaching What You Don’t Know

Join us for our first Teaching Tuesday event where we will discuss strategies for teaching material that is beyond your expertise. We will also consider the role of imposter syndrome in the classroom and strategies to overcome those feelings.  

September 13: Navigating the Academic Job Search

In this workshop, we will explore the ins and outs of the academic job market and offer suggestions on where to begin. 

September 13: Developing Teaching Philosophy Statement

A teaching philosophy statement is an essential part of academic job applications. The document allows you to reflect on your own teaching and what you value most as an instructor. Join us for an interactive workshop to explore how you may begin writing your own teaching narrative.  

September 20: Developing Your Elevator Pitch: Preparing for the Three Minute Thesis

Being able to explain your research to any audience is an essential skill for every graduate student. Join us for an interactive workshop where you will learn some tips and have the chance to practice your elevator pitch. We will also provide more information about the upcoming Three Minute Thesis Competition.  

September 29: Drop In Hours for Three Minute Thesis

Stop by for advice and feedback on your Three Minute Thesis presentation. This is a great opportunity to try out your ideas and prepare for the competition.  


You can also access on-demand video presentations of workshops in the GPAD presentation library. The library features presentations within three categories:

1. Research Fundamentals
2. Career Planning Essentials
3. Professional and Personal Effectiveness 

Students can also complete an assessment to receive a certificate of completion in each of the three areas that can be added to your resume or CV.
