Recruitment Resources & Services

The mission of the Division of Graduate Studies is to advance graduate education at Kent State University and to serve as its advocate within the university and beyond. An important element of advancing graduate education is the recruitment of excellent graduate students and the Division of Graduate Studies offers several resources and services to assist departments in this area.

Recruitment Resources

• Council of Graduate Schools (CGS)

  • CGS is the only national organization in the United States that is dedicated solely to the advancement of graduate education and research. As an institutional member, The Division of Graduate Studies has access to publications and reports on a variety of topics that are of importance to graduate education.

Financial Awards for Recruitment

The Graduate College is a partner in your efforts to promote graduate education characterized by diversity in views, experiences, and ideas in the pursuit of research, scholarship, and creative excellence. The Graduate College offers two awards that assist departments in recruiting a more diverse group of students. Please contact Alexxus Sidney at asidney@kent.edu with questions about these awards.

• The Graduate Dean’s Award (GDA)

  • Academic departments and/or individual faculty members may nominate students who are underrepresented in their discipline for the GDA. The GDA supplements stipends offered by an applicant’s graduate program. The priority deadline for nominations is March 1, but nominations will be accepted as long as funds are available.

• The Graduate Dean’s Travel Award (GDTA)

  • Academic programs and/or individual faculty members may request funds to assist with the costs of applicant travel to Kent for campus interviews and visits. Up to $400 can be requested for each applicant. This award seeks to enhance Kent State University’s recruitment of academically excellent students with diverse backgrounds.

Outreach

• GRE Search Service - Diversity Data

  • The Division of Graduate Studies has a university subscription to the GRE Search Service. This service allows us to pull targeted data sets (e.g., testing date ranges, geographic regions, etc.) to proactively connect with prospective graduate students. This data will be available for you to use at no charge, or, you can contact us to export data on other criteria. Please note, if you’d like to pull data on criteria beyond our data sets, this expense will have to be covered by either your department or program. Contact Lana Whitehead at lwhiteh2@kent.edu for additional information.

• Communications

  • The Division of Graduate Studies is happy to help you develop or expand your current email communications plan through the use of our CRM, CollegeNET, which is an online system used by the Division to collect, organize, and track prospective student information. This is a FREE service to all graduate programs.
