Graduate Professional and Academic Development

The Division of Graduate Studies sponsors a weeklong professional development workshop series each semester known as GPAD.  The one-hour workshops are free and open to Kent State graduate students from all disciplines. The workshops are designed to supplement material that presented during Graduate Student Orientation, along with professional and academic development that occurs at the program or college level.  The GPAD workshops are a collaborative initiative between the Division of Graduate Studies and other campus units including University Libraries, Research and Sponsored Programs, Career Services, Blackstone LaunchPad, and the Office of Continuing and Distance Education. The sessions are facilitated by university faculty, administrators, and graduate teaching fellows.

Graduate Research Symposium

Each spring, GSS hosts the annual Graduate Research Symposium, an event that displays, recognizes, and celebrates research and scholarship across all disciplines.  The Symposium is a wonderful opportunity for graduate students to gain experience presenting in an academic setting, receive interdisciplinary feedback regarding their work, network with faculty and peers, and earn a mark of distinction for their resume or curriculum vitae.  All forms and levels of scholarship are encouraged, from class projects to theses and dissertations.  The Symposium includes oral and poster presentations and an Awards Luncheon with monetary prizes given to the best presentations in each category.
