The GSS Domestic Travel Award (DTA) is a non-competitive award that supports the graduate students to attend or travel to a domestic conference. This award offers a flat rate of $300 for a domestic travel or a rate up to $300 to attend a virtual conference depending on the conference registration fee.
The purpose of this award is to promote the professional and academic development of the graduate students at Kent State University. The DTA funding is restricted to individuals presenting, performing, or actively participating at professional conferences or comparable academic events related to their academic program or standards of their field.
Note: Because of the travel restrictions due to COVID-19, we have made changes to this award to better support graduate students. These changes are specific to the Summer 2021 Domestic Travel Award.
- The Summer 2021 DTA can only be used to attend a virtual conference/workshop.
- Graduate students can apply for a DTA to attend multiple conferences/workshops, as long as the total award amount is under $300.
- In case of multiple applications:
- Submit a single application with information on each conference/workshop.
- Submit a single post-award survey and provide receipts and proof of conference attendance in a combined pdf.

Summer 2020 - August 15, 2020 by 11:59 p.m. for travel between May 14, 2020 and August 25, 2020
Fall 2020 – September 7, 2020 by 11:59 p.m. for travel between August 27, 2020 and January 18, 2021
Spring 2021 – February 1, 2021 by 11:59 p.m. for travel between January 19, 2021 and May 19, 2021
Summer 2021 – May 31, 2021 by 11:59 p.m. for travel between May 20, 2021 and August 25, 2021

INFORMATION FOR DTA RECIPIENTS
Awardees: After you are approved for the DTA award, please set up a direct deposit in order to receive the money. The Office of the Dean of Students will process a direct deposit (preferred) or a check request to an address specified in the application form. Awardees are also required to complete a Post-Award Survey after their return/attendance from the travel/conference.
