Schedule for Academic Program Reviews

Academic program reviews are conducted on a 7-year cycle, and cover a unit’s undergraduate and graduate programs.  The Division of Graduate Studies is responsible for coordinating all program reviews in which there is a graduate component. Undergraduate only programs undergo a separate review process that is coordinated by the Assistant Provost for Accreditation, Assessment and Learning.

The schedule below is for those units and programs that have a graduate component.  In January of the year indicated on the schedule, the appropriate deans and department chairs/school directors are notified if their programs are to be reviewed. The unit completes a self-study during the spring semester, and an external review takes place during the following academic year.

In rare cases where there is a justifiable need to defer, accelerate, or otherwise reschedule a program review, the department chair/school director will make a written request to the academic college dean that sets out the justification for deferment or acceleration. The dean will forward the request in writing, together with his or her independent opinion and recommendation, to the Dean of Graduate Studies.  The Dean of Graduate Studies will consider such requests on their merits, take into account the institutional need to maintain the regularity and timeliness of the review process, and will make the final determination regarding whether and how the review will be scheduled.
