Summer Dissertation Boot Camp

Summer Dissertation Boot Camp at Kent State University provides a long-term educationally focused space, dedicated to uninterrupted writing - with comfortable amenities. 

Sessions will take place in June 2019. Each session lasts one week and attendees can choose to live in the residence halls or commute for one, two, three or four weeks.

Session I: June 2-8
Session II: June 9-15
Session III: June 16-22
Session IV: June 23-29

Students are provided:

  • Apartment-style living on campus; walking distance to downtown for students (students can also opt not to live on campus)
  • Three daily meals, Monday through Friday
  • Access to free printing and resource materials for research and writing
  • Membership to the Kent State University Student Recreation and Wellness Center
  • A stainless-steel Dissertation Boot Camp tumbler and complimentary coffee and tea
  • A variety of study spaces across campus including in Cartwright Hall, the University Library, and more.

Below are the rates for the cost of attendance. There is a lower rate for KSU students and ABD students from other universities who are currently faculty at KSU.

Cost of Attendance for Students Not Living on Campus

$300 per week for KSU students 
$400 per week for non-KSU students

Cost of Attendance for Students Living on Campus

$850 per week for KSU students in a single room
$700 per week for KSU students in a 4-person suite with one or two roommates
$550 per week for KSU students in a 4-person suite with three roommates

$1,000 per week for non-KSU students in a single room
$850 per week for non-KSU students in a 4-person suite with one or two roommates
$700 per week for non-KSU students in a 4-person with three roommates

Four-person suites include private bedrooms, a shared bathroom, and a shared common area with kitchen. Learn more about accommodations in Engleman Hall. The cost of attendance is $100 less per week for the second, third, and fourth weeks for any student who chooses to attend for more than one week and live on campus. Check in for students living on campus is 3-5pm on Sundays and check out for students living on campus is 11am on Saturdays.

A non-refundable deposit of $250 is needed to save your spot at the boot camp if you plan to live on campus and full payment for the boot camp is due by Wednesday, May 1. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is needed to save your spot at the boot camp if do not plan to live on campus and full payment for the boot camp is due by Wednesday, May 1. The deposit will go toward the cost of attendance. Students or faculty/administrators paying for the student's attendance will be forwarded information about how to put down their deposit and pay for boot camp attendance upon confirmation of available space for the attending student.
