Admission & Assistantships

Admission/Application Requirements

M.A. Program

A B.A. in history is preferred for unconditional admission to our M.A. program in history. Applicants lacking a B.A. are eligible for unconditional admission if they have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of undergraduate coursework in history with a minimum GPA of 3.30. That expectation does not hold true for practicing teachers applying to our History for Secondary School Teachers concentration. All applicants regardless of area of study must have an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better; the department expects that the history GPA is considerably higher than that.

Ph.D. Program

All applicants to the doctoral program in history are expected to hold an M.A. in history (preferably with a thesis) or a related discipline.
