Writing Intensive

Kent State University requires that all undergraduate students complete the Writing-Intensive Course Requirement. All students must complete at least one upper-division course designated as "writing-intensive" with a grade of C or better.

Courses that are writing-intensive will have a memo note in the Schedule of Classes stating "This course is writing-intensive." The Department of History has also created a Writing-Intensive credit hour to be added to other approved courses. Registering for this hour (HIST 40085) in addition to courses approved by the Department will satisfy the University's Writing-Intensive Course Requirement. The Department will post a list of approved courses every semester. Please consult the Department before registering.

While the intent is that the requirement be fulfilled within the major, a student may use a writing-intensive course in another discipline to fulfill the requirement if permitted by the department/school of his or her major.
