How to Apply

To apply to the Honors College, students must be admitted to Kent State University. If you are applying as a transfer student, you must also complete the application for admission to Kent State University.

Admissions Requirements & Eligibility

In order to be considered for membership, students must meet the following criteria:

  • 3.50 minimum cumulative GPA in college coursework
  • A minimum of 12 credit hours of earned academic credit
  • A reasonable chance of graduating with Honors or an Honors College Scholar notation (see Graduation from Honors)

Note: Students with 45 or more earned credit hours may be required to complete a Senior Honors Thesis/Project. In this instance, your application essay must also include specific information on how the Senior Honors Thesis/Project will fit in with your plans for your final three semesters as an undergraduate. Students who meet this criteria should wait to apply until the junior year.

Admissions Process

Students must complete an application and two required essays. Transfer students must also have all official academic transcripts of college coursework submitted to the Office of Admissions prior to being considered for membership. 

Students interested in joining the Honors College are encouraged to discuss their interest with the Coordinator of Admissions prior to submission of an application.

Students may join the Honors College as current Kent State University students or transfer from other colleges and universities. Admission is selective.
