Honors Thesis Explores Career Development Among Latina Students

Student Researches Latina Student Career Development

Natalia Roman is a senior communication studies major who is currently investigating the messages Latina college students receive in regards to gender and career.

Roman is completing this study for her Senior Honors Thesis under the direction of Dr. Suzy D'Enbeau, assistant professor in the School of Communication Studies.

Natalia says getting to know the stories of Latina undergraduates and comparing how they differ based on their immigration status and other factors impacting their narratives has been the most rewarding part of her thesis experience thus far.

Roman recently presented her pilot study at the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender in October, and she also presented this part of the study during the 25th Annual EOA National McNair Research Conference in Wisconsin two weeks ago.

After graduation from Kent State in spring 2017, Natalia plans to pursue graduate study.

"Conducting undergraduate research has prepared me for what is to come in grad school next year, and it has already made me a more attractive candidate for funding," she said.
