World making and the Voice of Women

Students Look at the Roles and Struggles of Women Around the World

Around the world, women are being confronted with challenges due to their gender. This spring, Kent State University Honors College students were given the opportunity to explore those challenges through an interdisciplinary course called “Worldmaking and the Voice of Women.”

Students of all genders have been looking at the various roles women play throughout cultures in society, as well as the issues these women have in common with each other. Many of these roles come with issues specific to region/culture.

This course has been encouraging students to participate in class discussions, allowing them to share their personal insight through weekly reflection essays and class discussions.

The course is being team-taught by a number of Kent State faculty in various departments.

Kent State University strives to offer courses such as this one to encourage a diversified and knowledgeable campus environment that can be taken into the professional world and beyond.
