Housing Update and Resource Information

Hello everyone,

In an effort to make sure you feel informed, the following is an update since our message earlier this week. We also included a website link to FAQs, additional information, and support and health resources.

Eastway Update:
Room checks were completed in Fletcher Hall on Wednesday. In Fletcher, there were six (6) rooms where we worked with a 3rd party to thoroughly treat, clean, and test the space. Students from these rooms received individual outreach and response based on their situation.

UFM staff are steadily working through any remaining rooms in Allyn, Clark, and Manchester. The room checks are now scheduled to be complete by the end of the day on Mon., Oct. 3, 2022. If this changes, we will update accordingly.

Work Order Response for Mold – UPDATED Response Time:
Hearing about Eastway may have you on heightened alert – no worries, we have you covered!

Enter a work order at: https://www.kent.edu/ufm/ready-work-requestIf your work order states a concern of mold, UFM will respond within three (3) business days. UPDATE: our previous communication stated one business day. Many of you wanted someone to verify for peace of mind which is great! However, due to that request volume we needed to make this adjustment.

When UFM arrives, they will knock three (3) times and verbally announce before they enter. For concerns noted as mold, UFM staff will enter whether you are home or not.

Upon entering your room, UFM staff will do a visual inspection of the room, wipe down the louvers, and take any other corrective action necessary based on their review. When they complete the inspection, a notice will be left on your room door.

Important Tip for All Students on Campus:
Professional staff are noticing numerous instances of louvers (directional vent) on HVAC units blocked with room furniture, primarily a wardrobe. All rooms need appropriate airflow and movement and when louvers are blocked it can contribute to an environment conducive to growth. Please help us help you and look at how you’ve reconfigured your room furniture. If you’ve blocked the louver, please rearrange!

Resources:
