Attentional Fitness 3-part series
Learn how to exercise your ability to focus, recharge, and connect with mindfulness. Practicing together is a great way to establish mindful habits. These three practice sessions are a great opportunity to clear up the questions you have about mindfulness practice and gain confidence in your ability to do it. Daron Larson is an experienced meditation instructor who encourages curiosity over perfectionism. Daron is known for helping people better interpret their efforts to develop mindfulness over time. The more sessions you are able to attend, the better, but please consider attending as many as you are able. You will not only pick up a few empowering exercises to test out in the laboratory of your daily life, but you'll also be part of a supportive community of explorers.
Wed., Apr. 10, 2019 10 – 11 a.m.
Concentration is the ability to pay attention to what you consider important. What makes it so challenging is the pull of distractions coming at us on any given day. Instead of waiting for the world to get less distracting, we’ll try out selective attention exercises that develop your ability to focus.
Fri., Apr. 19, 2019 10 – 11 a.m.
Most of us need circumstance to be comfortable in order to relax. With practice, however, we can learn to detect and savor rest in the midst of ordinary life. We can also learn how to “reboot” by taking mindful breaks from our constant thinking, planning, problem-solving, and remembering. Join us and learn how you can incorporate “recharge” moments into your daily life.
Wed., Apr. 24, 2019 10 – 11 a.m.
Research indicates that empathy exercises result in changes in brain structure and functioning more quickly than concentration or relaxation exercises. During this session, mindfulness expert, Daron Larson, will take our attentional fitness through a connection exercise that helps support empathy, compassion, and increased resilience.
