Vacation and Holidays

The university recognizes the importance of providing employees an opportunity for recreation or other personal matters without the loss of compensation.  Paid vacation leave is granted according to the terms and conditions below, and should be planned in advance with your supervisor.

The university observes the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day, January 1
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 3rd Monday In January
  • President's Day, 3rd Monday in February (movable holiday usually observed contiguous with Christmas Day)
  • Memorial Day, last Monday in May
  • Independence Day, July 4
  • Labor Day, 1st Monday in September
  • Columbus Day, 2nd Monday in October (movable holiday usually observed the day after Thanksgiving)
  • Veterans' Day, November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day, 4th Thursday of November
  • Christmas Day, December 25

Holidays that occur on Saturday are observed the preceding Friday.  Holidays that occur on Sunday are observed on the following Monday.  Specific observance dates are announced in the official university calendar.
