HI and KM Certificate Application Materials

Once your online application is submitted you can begin submitting your required materials. You may upload them into the application or send them to graduate admissions at gradapps@kent.edu or international admissions (for international students) at oge@kent.edu

Official Transcripts

Request an official transcript from each college/university in which nine (9) semester hours or more were earned, except for Kent State University. Kent State requires official transcripts sent directly from each institution.

Online University Application

Applicants are required to create an account, which allows them to save the application and track the progress of materials submitted via the application system. The online application will indicate "Kent Campus" for all Kent and online students. Degrees and certificates are offered through the College of Communication and Information.

Letters of recommendation (3 references required)

References should be able to provide support for your ability to succeed in graduate study. In general the best references are professors, but supervisors can also serve well. To determine the best references for you, download the letter of recommendation form to get a sense of the kinds of information the admissions committee likes to see.

There are two ways for references to submit recommendations:

  • Online: On your application, list the names and email addresses of three (3) people completing letters of recommendation for you. The application system will send a message to the references with instructions on how and where to submit their recommendation. This is the only way to submit an electronic reference.
  • By Mail: References will need to download and complete the letter of recommendation form. Original signatures are required, so these forms must be mailed to Graduate Studies or the Office of Global Education; they cannot be faxed or e-mailed.
Test scores, if necessary

All international applicants whose education has been primarily outside the United States must provide objective evidence of proficiency in the English language with some exceptions. See the English Language Proficiency page on the International Admissions site to determine whether you will be required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. Contact Educational Testing Services for further TOEFL information (www.ETS.org/toefl) or http://www.ielts.org/default.aspx for IELTS testing. See the International Students page on our site for more information on score requirements.
