User Experience Design (Tenure Track Faculty)

FACULTY, TENURE TRACK, 9 MONTH, USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN (UXD)

The iSchool seeks a new faculty member with research and teaching interests in one or more of the following areas:

  • Human-computer interaction
  • User experience research and design
  • Interaction design
  • Industrial design
  • Human factors psychology
  • Related areas

Candidates should demonstrate potential for developing a sustained record of outstanding scholarship including publication and grant writing. Service to professional organizations, the school and the university is expected. School Librarianship (Tenure Track Faculty)

Kent State University’s nationally ranked School of Information (iSchool) invites applicants for a full-time, tenure track position in School Librarianship. 

The iSchool is part of the College of Communication and Information (CCI), a unique collaboration that brings together five distinct but interrelated fields of study – media, design, communication, information, and digital technologies. CCI faculty are creative, dynamic, and interdisciplinary and the iSchool seeks candidates that fully embrace the opportunities that the College offers for transdisciplinary collaboration among our fields. The iSchool features the same interdisciplinarity and collaborative spirit in our approach to research and teaching. Applications are encouraged from candidates with teaching competencies in the areas of school librarianship with expertise in educational technology and curriculum and instruction. The position will include curriculum development and direction relative to licensure and Ohio Department of Education guidelines, scholarship, teaching, advising, and practicum oversight responsibilities of students enrolled in the M.L.I.S School Library Media K-12, dual M.L.I.S. School Library Media K-12/M.Ed. degree, and non-degree school media licensure programs. Service to professional organizations, the school, and the university is expected. 

This position involves online and/or face-to-face teaching and advising. 

Minimum Requirements
Candidates must have licensure in school library media with an initial teaching certificate and a doctorate in library and information science, curriculum and instruction or a closely related field at the time of hire. Official notification of completion of the degree must be received by the start date of August 21, 2022. Candidates will demonstrate potential for developing a program of scholarship that will lead to an outstanding and sustained record of scholarly publications and grant writing. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as a demonstrated commitment to student success.

Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in a K-12 public school environment and with collegiate teaching experience.

Part-Time Instructors

The School seeks qualified instructors for part-time, temporary positions for our online degree programs in Master of Library and Information Science and Master of Science with concentrations in health informatics, knowledge management and user experience design.

Selection is based on the applicant's subject expertise and professional experience in the relevant area, as well as teaching experience, with an emphasis on online teaching. All teaching is done online.

Part-time faculty members whose appointments require that their assigned duties are performed for a full semester are entitled to a fee waiver of up to a maximum of four credit hours, which can be used during or immediately following the semester in which they are employed. Part-time employees earn sick leave in an amount proportionate to the percentage of full-time service.

Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. The school keeps applications for part-time teaching on file for one year.
