SLIS to Honor Alumni, Friends, Students & Recent Grads

The School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at Kent State University will honor its top alumni, distinguished friends and outstanding students and recent graduates at events in Kent and Columbus this April.

The annual Celebration of Alumni and Student Success will take place on Wednesday, April 1, at the SLIS site in the State Library of Ohio in Columbus, for alumni, students and friends in southern/central Ohio, and on Tuesday, April 21, at SLIS on the Kent Campus, for those in northern/northeast Ohio. Events in both locations start at 6 p.m. and are open to all; there is no charge to attend, but a reservation is requested.

Among those being honored are LIS Alumnus of the Year Catherine Hakala-Ausperk, M.L.S. '91; IAKM Alumnus of the Year Don Jason, III, M.L.I.S. '13, M.S. '13; and Friend of the Year Carolyn S. Brodie, Ph.D., SLIS professor (retired).

Columbus: Wednesday, April 1

  • Hors d'oeuvres reception, 6 to 8 p.m.; brief program at 6:45 p.m.
  • State Library of Ohio, 274 E. First Ave., Columbus 43201
  • Guests may also tour the State Library of Ohio (including the Rare Book Room), Ohioana Library and SLIS offices and classrooms during this time.

Kent: Tuesday, April 21

  • Hors d'oeuvres reception, 6 to 8 p.m.; brief program at 6:45 p.m.
  • SLIS, Kent State University, 3rd Floor University Library
  • During this time, guests may also visit the SLIS facilities — including the Reinberger Children's Library Center, Marantz Picturebook Collection and MuseLab.
