July 2015: Phishing Attack on Hotels.com

Hotels.com is a popular travel company that allows users to search, compare, and book hotel rooms. It was recently reported that the users of this website were targeted by a sophisticated phishing attack. The company is still working on notifying impacted customers, but it is a reminder to everyone to always be on the lookout for suspicious emails, even if they appear to come from a legitimate source. These particular phishing emails replicated the official emails sent by hotels.com and exact customer bookings were even inserted, making these phishing emails appear legitimate. However, a close look at some of the links in the emails revealed the true nature of the email.

Phishing emails, especially spear-phishing emails, are often very hard to detect. Learn more about how to detect phishing emails.
