K-12 School Library Media Licensure Culminating Experience

The Ohio Department of Education requires each student pursuing K-12 licensure to complete a practicum in an educational setting.

A practicum gives you opportunities to test and apply principles learned in graduate study to real world experiences. The practicum also allows you to make some contacts with professionals in our field, which could be helpful in your career. Students often use their practicum supervisors for professional references, and some students’ practicum experiences have led to professional positions after graduation.

You will spend a minimum of 100 clock hours working in a school library and complete an electronic portfolio. Licensure-only students register for LIS 60692 for two or three hours of graduate credit. Your academic advisor will discuss placement and scheduling of the practicum with you.
