Hildy Pearl of Solon, Ohio, was named the IAKM Alumnus of the Year Award from Kent State University’s School of Library and Information Science. The award, given to information architecture and knowledge management (IAKM) graduates who have made a significant contribution to the profession, will be presented at a ceremony at Kent State University on April 25, 2017.
Pearl holds an undergraduate degree in Dietetics from the University of Maryland, College Park, a Master of Science in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University, and a Master of Science (2015) with a health informatics concentration from Kent State’s iSchool. Pearl is currently the Senior Application Analyst for the Oncology Team at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Her career goal is to make an impact on patient care through the use of health information technology.
According to the faculty nominations, Pearl “serves as a liaison at University Hospitals between clinicians and their electronic health record software provider. She is a seasoned and skilled clinician who understands the importance of clear communication regarding what needs to be fixed or built in the medical record in order to diminish burden on physicians and nurses facilitating high quality care, healthy patient outcomes, and reduced unintended consequences that could jeopardize patient safety. Hildy was a leader in each of her Kent State classes, working with her classmates to raise the level of discourse and learning.”
In 2013, she received the iSchool’s Health Informatics Leadership Scholarship.
The School of Library and Information Science (iSchool) at Kent State University offers a Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) and Master of Science in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM), with concentrations in health informatics, knowledge management and user experience design.
