Picturebook Symposium Creates Advisory Board

Graphic Novels & Comics Research Featured in 2018

In preparation for the 2018 Marantz Picturebook Research Symposium (tentatively scheduled for July 22-24, 2018 at Kent State University), the School of Library and Information Science is creating a five-member external advisory board to participate in planning. The symposium theme will be related to Comics and Graphic Novels; co-convenors are SLIS Assistant Professor Marianne Martens, Ph.D., and Senior Lecturer Mary Anne Nichols, M.L.S.

All meetings will be held via Google Hangouts. An initial meeting will be held this fall, with a couple meetings in spring 2017. From September 2017 to July 2018, monthly planning meetings will be scheduled, which will become more frequent as the date of the symposium draws near.

Board members will be expected to attend the conference and assist with assigned tasks. In exchange, they will receive free conference registration (although they will still need to arrange their own accommodations and travel).

Interested individuals are invited to apply by sending a paragraph (limited to 250 words) about their interest and expertise relating to graphic novels and comics to Michelle Baldini (mbaldini@kent.edu) by Nov. 15, 2016. If accepted, advisory board members will receive notification by Dec. 1, 2016.
