SLIS to Host Second Annual Mock Caldecott

The School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University will host its second annual "Mock Caldecott" event on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Join us -- virtually or in person -- to discuss possible winners for the 2015 Caldecott award. REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED.

Participants in this free, non-credit workshop will receive a list of pre-selected books that have generated excellent reviews and/or Internet buzz over the last few months. This list will be circulated prior to the meeting so everyone has a chance to locate and review them.

A limited number of seats are available. REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED.

On-site participants will meet in the Marantz Picturebook Collection, room 311B in the University Library, Kent State University. Virtual participants will receive login instructions prior to the event.

Mock Caldecott Itinerary

5:30 - 6 p.m. Presentation of procedures for the evening 6 - 6:30 p.m. Book discussion groups – book set #1 (7 books) 6:30 - 7 p.m. Pizza break and video (for on-site participants) 7 - 7:30 p.m. Book discussion groups – book set #2 (7 books) 7:30 - 8 p.m. Presentation by former Caldecott Committee Member and discussion 8 - 8:30 p.m. Book discussion groups – book set #3 (6 books) 8:30 - 9 p.m. Voting and wrap-up

The 2015 Caldecott Award will be announced on Feb. 2 at the midwinter meeting of the American Library Association.
