ACEJMC Accreditation

JMC is the only school of journalism and communication in Northeast Ohio accredited by Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC).

Accreditation matters. It signifies that a program meets rigorous national standards for excellence, as evaluated by peers and practitioners in the field.

“Accreditation is an assurance of quality in professional education in journalism and mass communications. Students in an accredited program can expect to find a challenging curriculum, appropriate resources and facilities, and a competent faculty. Accredited programs may offer scholarships, internships, competitive prizes, and other activities unavailable in non-accredited programs. Accredited programs in journalism and mass communications offer the assurance that they have been evaluated by academic peers and leading practitioners and have met the tests of the nine standards.” (ACEJMC)

JMC has been continuously accredited by ACEJMC since 1965. It was most recently re-accredited in 2015.

Strategic Plan

Our faculty, staff and students continue to strive for a better school and educational environment. When we implemented the JMC Strategic Plan in 2013, our goal was to have a full review of our plan every three years. In line with that goal, the current version of the JMC Strategic Plan was implemented in fall 2016. This 2016-17 Progress Report is based on that plan. The following report highlights several of our notable accomplishments for each Goal. Updates on Student Learning Assessment (Goal #1) and Diversity (Goal #3) are listed separately in reports on each of those plans.
