Chris Venable

Chris, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, holds bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and education from Webster University and a master’s degree in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University. Chris uses they/them/their pronouns and has been advising in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication since 2015. Their commitment to equity and justice drives their work in higher education, both in theory and practice. Chris is an active member of NACADA, the Global Community for Academic Advising, since graduate school, regularly presenting at conferences and working with the Theory, Philosophy, and History of Advising Commission. Chris is also part of the NACADA Emerging Leaders Program, 2017-2019 Class. Outside of the office, they are pursuing the doctorate in cultural foundations of education at Kent State, with their research and writing centered on questions of justice in education, professionalization of academic advising, and LGBTQ students/professionals in higher education. Chris enjoys cooking for their friends and family, reading books, and learning the Baroque recorder.
