Student Success Week 2016: April 25-29
Kent State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) is gearing up to host its fourth annual Student Success Week, taking place April 25-29, 2016. The week will shine a spotlight on JMC students’ hard work by celebrating their accomplishments and achievements.
Student Success Week Schedule:
Monday, April 25
FREE Food Monday
First Floor Lobby, Franklin Hall
JMC faculty and staff will celebrate all JMC students with a coffee and donut breakfast (9 to 11 a.m.) and a pizza dinner (3 to 5 p.m.).
JMC Kickball Game, 5:15 p.m.
Taylor Hall Field
Join the JMC Student Voice team for a kickball game! More information will be passed out during Free Food Monday - but plan to engage in some friendly competition while getting to know students in all JMC majors.
Tuesday, April 26
Kappa Tau Alpha Induction and JMC Awards Ceremony, 4:45 p.m.
First Energy Auditorium, Franklin Hall
JMC juniors and seniors who have GPAs among the top 10 percent in the School will be inducted into Kappa Tau Alpha, the national college honor society that promotes academic excellence and scholarship in journalism and mass communication. More than 75 students who have won or placed in national award competitions or earned national fellowships and internships this academic year will be recognized at this event as well.
Thursday, April 28
Scholarship Awards Ceremony and Dinner, 5 p.m.
Room 306, Kent Student Center (By invitation only)
Scholarships and financial awards will be presented to current freshmen, sophomores and juniors, and JMC will also recognize its generous scholarship and award donors.
KSU Independent Films Premiere of “Unlucky”
Doors open at 7 p.m., film begins at 8:30 p.m.
Cartwright Auditorium (Tickets required)
KSUIF will premiere its fourth full-length feature film, "Unlucky." This is a red carpet event. Learn more, or buy tickets.

Professional Advisory Board Spring Meeting: Thursday, April 28, 1:30-4:30 p.m., 213 Franklin Hall: Members of JMC’s advisory board, many of them alumni, will spend the day meeting with student media leaders and faculty, while reviewing the status and progress of JMC programs.
Retirement Celebration for Gary and LuEtt Hanson, John Butte and David LaBelle: Friday, April 29, 4 p.m., FirstEnergy Auditorium, Franklin Hall
Retiring JMC faculty members and CCI administrators retiring over the next few months will be recognized by faculty, staff, alumni and Board members.
