This multimedia presentation will explore Marvin Gaye’s landmark 1971 album What’s Going On as a response to the Vietnam War and the declining conditions in U.S. cities. Gaye’s album pushed Motown Records to release more socially conscious music and inspired other soul artists to write about the impact of the war and its impact at home.
