Applicants Sought for Kent State’s Special Education Program

Students receive full tuition for one year, monthly stipend and iPad

Kent State University’s Special Education program is seeking applicants for its Early Intervention Certificate Program for the 2017-2018 academic year. The program prepares individuals at the graduate level to work with infants and toddlers who have identified disabilities or delays and their families.

The program, which received a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, is designed for individuals who have existing bachelor’s degrees or higher in special education and related fields (for example, Early Childhood Education, Human Development and Family Studies, Speech Pathology), but all interested individuals are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 and meet Kent State’s graduate admission requirements to be considered for the program.

Financial support will be provided for full-time students and will include:

  • Full tuition support for one calendar year (three semesters with a full-time course load)
  • A monthly stipend, including summer months
  • iPad 

Program activities include research-based coursework in early childhood special education, internship experiences and ongoing coaching and supervision. The program requires a one-year, full-time commitment, and courses are offered in a hybrid format with a combination of on-campus and online participation. A two-year service obligation (i.e., position in the field of early intervention) will be required for the funded students after the completion of the program.
