Proof of Address (On-Campus)

If you live in the dorms on Kent State campus and you want to register to vote, you can put your dorm as your address and you will become eligible to vote in Portage County! Remember to put your dorm's name as your address if you do this! If you have any questions, you can always stop by during one of the Kent State Votes tabling events that we have throughout the semester (check out our Kent State Votes calendar!).

You are eligible to vote from the college dorms, according to the Ohio Secretary of State website, if you do not intend to move back to another address. In other words, you have to make your dorm as your permanent address.

If you want to vote in the election from your dorm address, you will have to fill out a voter registration form with your new address on it at least 30 days before the election in which you wish to vote.

How to Get Proof of Address for Your Dorm

To get proof of address that you live in your dorm, would need to visit your housing account. This is where you accept your room condition report and it also shows transaction histories for arrivals and check outs.

Assuming you have an assignment, and that you've checked in, you will see a link on the screen that says “Get Proof of Residency”. That generates a $0 utility bill that the local Board of Elections deems sufficient for proof of residence. Residence Services created this 5 or 6 years ago to assist with voting questions! Examples of what this looks like for a student are shown below.
