About the Presidential Listening Tour

Kent State’s new president, Beverly Warren, initiated a Presidential Listening Tour to bring her face-to-face with Kent State constituents across the university, across Ohio and nationwide.  Her goal for the tour: Hearing the thoughts of Kent State’s many internal and external stakeholders about everything from what makes them most proud of Kent State to how the university can become even better in the months and years ahead.

Warren believes that it is critically important to consider all perspectives as she builds a solid grasp of Kent State’s people and programs, and of the university’s immediate and longer-term challenges and opportunities.  As she said in a letter to the university community on her first day in office — the same day she embarked on the Listening Tour, “I want to explore how I can best help the university build on its remarkable, positive momentum of recent years.”

Each stop on the tour, which currently extends into early 2015, provides an opportunity for open, in-depth discussions about the university’s unique strengths and opportunities. Whether the president is engaging with current students, faculty and staff, Kent State alumni or with leaders in areas such as education, business, healthcare and government, she invites every audience to be a partner in answering an elusive-but-critical question: “What is the heart of Kent State?”

Ultimately, Listening Tour discussions will help create the foundation for an inclusive, strategic-planning initiative that charts Kent State’s course for the coming years.  As Warren and her Kent State leadership team see it, the best strategic plans are informed by multiple perspectives. The Listening Tour is a means of including as many voices as possible as Kent State develops a shared vision of its future and, in turn, a plan of action that will bring it to life.
