KSU Foreign Language Academies Receive 2012 Funding from NSA

MCLS congratulates Dr. Brian Baer and Prof. Theresa Minick on their successful grant applications for this year’s KSU Startalk Foreign Language Academies in Russian, Arabic and Chinese. The Academies are summer residential language immersion programs designed for high school students; the Chinese Academy also trains local high school teachers of Chinese in best practices in foreign language pedagogy. The Academies have demonstrated success in preparing students for advanced study of these critical need languages, and many of the graduates have chosen to study at Kent State. The total funding for these programs in 2012 exceeds $305,000, and our Academy instructors have been nationally recognized by Startalk for their teaching skills.
