72-Hour Requirement

The Kent State University School of Journalism and Mass Communication is accredited by ACEJMC, The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.  This means we meet high standards regarding our facility, our faculty and our program of study.  Accreditation brings prestige along with some rules and regulations.   

As required per the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC), students must complete a minimum of 72 credit hours outside the journalism and mass communication discipline.

The specific courses listed below are considered outside the JMC discipline and can be used toward the 72-hour requirement:

*All transfer coursework with a subject designator of TRAN, KAPS, COMM XXXXX, or VCD XXXXX will not count toward this 72-hour requirement automatically.  Students must meet with their academic advisor for further evaluation regarding application to this requirement.
