Kennedi Combs, Journalism
Internship: Ohio News Connection
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned about reporting news in the professional world is that detail matters."
As an intern with Ohio News Connection, the stories Kennedi Combs works on reach outlets across the state and beyond. The Ohio News Connection is an independent public news service that focuses on solutions journalism.
One of Kennedi’s assignments was a story about two wrongfully convicted Cleveland natives that were granted a new trial due to a lack of physical evidence. The course “Reporting” prepared her to cover deep topics like this one, as she learned how to conduct interviews and properly format news stories. The experience as a whole has reaffirmed her desire to pursue reporting, post-COVID-19.
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned about reporting news in the professional world is that detail matters,” Kennedi says. “Even if every detail doesn’t go into the story, the better the reporter understands what they are writing about, the better the story will be.”
