
John Bowen
Biography
Bowen currently teaches Writing Across Platforms and two master’s courses online, Teaching Ethics Online and Social Responsibility of Mass Media. He has also taught Media Information Gathering, Teaching High School Journalism in the 21st Century, Newswriting and Storytelling Across Platforms. He was involved with the development of the online master's program in Kent State's Center for Scholastic Journalism.
His academic resume includes 1983 Dow Jones Newspaper Fund National Journalism Teacher of the Year; Gold Key and Charles Murphy teaching award., Columbia Scholastic Press Association; Pioneer Award, National Scholastic Press Association; Master Journalism Educator, JEA; Carl Towley Award, JEA; Ohio Educational Language and Media Association Intellectual Freedom Award and two collegiate awards, Honors Lecturer and David Adams Teaching Award from AEJMC’s Scholastic Division.
Bowen currently is a board member of the Scholastic Press Rights Commission for the Journalism Education Association and past board of director’s member of the Student Press law Center.
