JMC Professor Receives Student Accessibility Services Accommodation Award

Assistant Professor Dave Foster was presented with a certificate of Excellence in Accessibility at Kent State Student Accessibility Services’ annual Faculty Recognition Reception.

Each year, Student Accessibility Services asks students registered with SAS to nominate professors who have positively impacted their experience by helping to make Kent State an accommodating and welcoming university for students with disabilities. Professor Foster received a nomination for the award from one of his students.

Foster said he was thankful that one his students took the time to share her experience in his class.

“I think every instructor hopes they provide an accommodating classroom for learning whether that’s in a small lab or large lecture hall,” Foster said. “I’ve been fortunate to see my colleagues in JMC provide outstanding accommodations for their students and it’s helped guide my course preparations.”

Foster said the event was amazing and that hearing narratives that students submitted about their instructors was truly moving.

"The impact was two-fold; the instructor accommodations had an impact on the student and the nomination narrative had an impact on the instructor,” he said.

Foster said that Student Accessibility Services has been tremendous in providing instructors at Kent State with the tools they need to create an inclusive environment for students.
