Graduate violist Cristian Diaz (MM) awarded prestigious Fellowship

Violist Cristian Diaz, MM in Chamber Music, has been selected for the prestigious Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra/University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Diversity Fellowship. Now in its second year, the Fellowship is awarded to only five applicants per year. Cristian, a current student of Joanna Patterson Zakany and member of the Efferus String Quartet, will receive a full-tuition scholarship to support his MM in Performance studies at CCM along with a $10,000 stipend. He anticipates studying with Dr. Catharine Lees.

In addition to the opportunities provided at CCM, Cristian will also perform on select concerts with the renowned Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra-one of the oldest orchestras in the United States. He will also engage in educational and community engagement work with an additional $8,000 stipend awarded by the CSO. The Fellowship also comes with extensive mentorship opportunities, as Cristian will be paired with a CSO coach/mentor throughout the entire two-year fellowship. Mentors will provide intensive guidance in preparation and performance for fellowship weeks with the CSO, as well as overall mentorship throughout the two-year experience. He will also have access to orchestral audition and professional development travel stipends.
