Kent State University Vanguard New Music Guest Artist Series Fuses Innovation and Imagination with Guest Ensemble Transient Canvas

Second Vanguard Guest Artist Concert

Kent, Ohio – The Vanguard New Music Guest Artist Series continues their 2016-2017 season with a free concert on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Ludwig Recital Hall. Ludwig Recital Hall is located in the Center for the Performing Arts at 1325 Theatre Drive on the Kent State University Kent campus. Free parking.

On the second concert of the Vanguard New Music Guest Artist Series, Transient Canvas presents “Travelogue: New Music for Bass Clarinet and Marimba.” Featuring entirely new works written specifically for them, repertoire includes music by Victoria Cheah, David Coll, Michelle McQuade Dewhirst, David Ibbett, Peter Van Zandt Lane, Crystal Pascucci, Rudolf Rojahn and Matthew Welch. Evocative and insightful, this program stretches the limits of not only the instruments but the audiences imagination as well. Prior to the performance the members of Transient Canvas will present a public workshop at 3 p.m. in Ludwig Recital Hall.

Transient Canvas, with members Amy Advocat, bass clarinet & Matt Sharrock, marimba, has been praised by the Boston Globe as "superb.” Since its founding in 2011 it has been blazing its own trail in the world of contemporary music, creating an entirely new repertoire of over 60 comissioned works for their unique instrumentation. Fearless in their programming and hungry for new collaborations, they have performed anywhere from microbreweries to Jordan Hall and actively seeks out new composers who will stretch their instrumentation to its limits.

Free and open to the public.
