KSU’s Verve Chamber Players to feature guest musicians and the music of Frank Wiley on March 20

Kent State’s Verve Chamber Players presents their spring performance on Tue., March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Ludwig Recital Hall. They will also be joined by guest artists oboist Danna Sundet, Kent State faculty, and Kent State graduate students Cristian Diaz, viola, and María Flórez Areiza, cello. Ludwig Recital Hall is at 1325 Theatre Drive in the Center for the Performing Arts. Ample free parking is available.

Audience members will first be treated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s String Quartet No. 14 in G Major, K. 387. Subtitled “Spring,” it is part of a set of 6 quartets dedicated to Haydn. Next, they will perform “Of Mountains Lost to Time” for string quartet and Enghlish horn by Kent State faculty member Frank Wiley and featuring KSU faculty member Danna Sundet. Concluding the program will be the richly scored Sextet in G Major, Op. 36 for two violins, two violas and two cellos by Johannes Brahms. Kent State graduate students and members of the Efferus String Quartet Cristian Diaz, viola, and María Flórez Areiza, cello, will join them.

Formed in 2013, the Verve Chamber Players is an Ensemble-in-Residence in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music. Comprised of five distinguished faculty members of Kent State University, players include Jung-Min Amy Lee, Associate Concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra, Assistant Professor of Violin and Artist-in-Residence at Kent State University; Cathy Meng Robinson and Keith Robinson, members of the Miami String Quartet, Assistant Professors of Violin and Cello, respectively; Joanna Patterson Zakany, member of The Cleveland Orchestra’s viola section and Assistant Professor of Viola; and Donna Lee, Associate Professor, Steinway Artist and Coordinator of the Piano Division. Known for their distinctive performances with artistic vitality and vigor, the Verve Chamber Players have been praised for their “virtuosity and commitment” (The Plain Dealer). Every year they deliver spirited chamber music performances throughout northeast Ohio.
