Summer Institute Led by TRIO Upward Bound Programs

TRIO Upward Bound cannot imagine spending summers any differently. We hosted nearly 150 high school students from seven high schools throughout northeastern Ohio on Kent State University’s Kent campus. In collaboration with a staff of over forty academic mentors, residential personnel, instructors, and committed University partners, our students were provided transformative educational experiences focusing on their seamless transition to post-secondary life.

Our University partners provided engaging curricula, introducing Upward Bound students to business, aeronautics, applied engineering, architecture, nursing, public health, fashion, and communication. These colleges continually support our students in the development of their STEM aptitude, entrepreneurial focus, and non-cognitive skills. Additionally, our Engagement Days provided students the opportunity to gain a deeper level of understanding on historically underserved career choices. Partners coordinated innovative field experiences to sites such as the renowned Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Museum of Art, and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

Looking for ways to support our Upward Bound family? Celebrate TRIO Week February 18 - February 23 with our Kent State TRIO family members, McNair Scholars and Student Support Services, and ‘save the date’ for our Senior Celebration scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2019.
